Hydrite Advanced Resins (HAR) Facilities

The Hydrite Advanced Resins (HAR) epichlorohydrin derivatives facility, shown below, is located at the Hydrite Chemical Co. organic processing plant site in Cottage Grove, WI. Hydrite Chemical serves as the toll (contract) manufacturer for HAR in providing all manufacturing and support services in the production of HAR’s epoxy resins and other epichlorohydrin derivative as well as other reaction and distillation services. The entire operation is certified by the Society of Chemical Manufacturers & Affiliates (SOCMA) as meeting their ChemStewards® standards as part of both companies commitment to maintaining an injury-free workplace.

HAR Process Vessels

The HAR plant includes a new process building specifically designed for the hazardous enviroment of epichlorohydrin processing. All primary vessels and associated pumps, piping and control systems were custom manufactured for this service and are located within the new building. The epichlorohydrin bulk storage tanks, located in a remote external tank farm, were designed to meet the requirements of Dow Chemical (major supplier of Epichlorohydrin) in conjuntion with their product stewardship.

Compared to “typical” batch epoxy reactors, HAR’s primary reactor is relatively large at 12,500 gals (47,000 liters) which provides high throughput. A second 12,500 gal (47,000 liter) vessel serves as a versatile vessel for additional secondary reaction and treatment as needed to achieve low levels of hydrolyzable chloride, water and/or solvent washing and vacuum stripping of epichlorohydrin or solvent with azeotrope recovery. A third 12,500 gal (47,000 liter) vessel adds additional post reaction flexibility.
